Russell 'Ed' Wimer

Russell “Ed” Wimer, 88, of New Castle passed away peacefully Sunday in his home surrounded by his family.

Born July 18, 1928, in Slippery Rock Township, he was a son of the late Guy and Rebecca Stoner Wimer.

He was an owner and operator truck driver for 45 years. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed spending the winter months in St. Cloud, Fla. He was a member of the Mason's Masonic 32nd Degree Lodge of the Craft for 55 years. He also enjoyed fellowship at the Portersville Presbyterian Church.

Ed will always be remembered as a hard worker and always kept busy. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and keeping his lawn in immaculate shape.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Kristophel Wimer, who he married Aug. 18, 1966. In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his children, Beverly (Bob) Bradford, Russell (Joyce) Wimer, Samantha (Spencer) Moon, Michael (Cheryl) Bauder, and Sue (John) Hornig; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Lilah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Loyal and Gaylord; and two sisters, Jean Nye and Bessie Wagner.

WIMER — Honoring his wishes of Russell “Ed” Wimer, who died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, there will be no visitation hours.A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville, with the Rev. Dana L. Opp officiating.Memorial contributions may be made in Ed's name to either Jameson Hospice, 1000 S. Mercer St., New Castle, PA 16101, or to the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville, PA 16051.Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
