BUFFALO TWP — Lingering in the left lane proved more than a minor traffic violation for a Kittanning man.

Following the traffic stop last week, state police arrested Dean Brian Miller, 46, of Kittanning for drugged driving.

But it got worse.

Hidden in a can of snuff in the center console, according to court documents, Trooper Kurtis Glasgow found nearly 100 stamp bags of suspected heroin.

Miller was arrested and placed in the Butler County Prison. He was released Tuesday after posting $50,000 bail.

On Wednesday, he waived his preliminary hearing on a charge of felony drug possession.

Additionally, he is charged with misdemeanor drug possession, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and left-lane lingering.

Glasgow first noticed the defendant’s car about 7:40 p.m. Dec. 29 while on patrol duty on Route 28 north in Buffalo Township. Police said Miller was traveling in the left lane with the right lane clear.

The trooper pulled over the suspect’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo as it crossed into Armstrong County. Soon after getting to the car, he suspected the driver was impaired.

Miller admitted that he had used heroin “a few hours earlier,” according to a police affidavit.

A consent search, police said, turned up a what appeared to be a drug-inhaling straw on the driver’s seat. Glasgow also found the snuff can stuffed with 96 bags of suspected heroin.

In the console, police said, were other empty bags of suspected heroin.

Miller was eventually taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township, where he was given a blood test. Toxicology results are pending.

Court records showed that Miller already has a misdemeanor drug possession case pending in Armstrong County court. State police filed those charges in August
