NORWOOD, Pa. — Officials said two teenage girls who were struck and killed by a high-speed Amtrak train committed suicide.

A train traveling from Boston to Washington, D.C., hit the 10th graders about 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Norwood, about 10 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

The Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office said Saturday autopsies concluded the deaths were suicides.

Norwood Police Chief Mark DelVecchio said an examination of the girls' e-mail and text messages showed they spoke of their desire to end their lives.
