Viola Edgar, 93, of New Kensington died at 6:20 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, after a brief illness. She had been at the hospice for four days.

Born Dec. 3, 1913, in Logans Ferry, she was a daughter of Frank and Augusta Miller Fiering.

She was a homemaker and lived in New Kensington since 1987. Before that, she lived in Cheswick, and she was the oldest active member of the Cheswick Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the Erma Anthony Bible Class and a former member of the Brackenridge Heights Country Club.

She was a 1931 graduate of Springdale High School and enjoyed golf, reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy (William) Snyder, of Butler and Linda (Theodore) Creighton of Blackthorn, Va.; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Margaret "Peggy" Stopp, of Cheswick, and nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. "Chick" Edgar, who died in 1993; three brothers, and five sisters.

Dr. J.H. Bossers officiating.
