1 person sent to hospital after Tuesday rollover crash on Route 422

A New Castle man was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital following a rollover crash Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 13, on Route 422 westbound in Butler Township.

Butler Township police reported Ethan Stoner, 23, was traveling west around 4:20 p.m. on Route 422 in the area of Greenwood Drive when he attempted to slow his vehicle, and instead rolled over his vehicle.

Police reported Stoner “looked down and when he looked up traffic had stopped.”

Police said Stoner reported attempting to slow down but said his vehicle began to slide. He maneuvered into the right lane to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead and hit an embankment, which caused his vehicle to roll, a Wednesday news release said.

Police said Stoner also hit the center barrier and vehicle of Tyler Tappe, 24, of Evans City. Tappe’s vehicle sustained heavy damage to its rear and was towed.

The extent of Stoner’s injuries are unknown.
