An eighth-grader from Squirrel Hill netted more than 19,000 pounds of cereal by simply writing a letter to Kellogg’s.

Ender Lin, 13, helped welcome the delivery of a tractor-trailer filled with cereal to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The letter was a simple ask, but paid off.

“My mom always says it can’t hurt to ask … so I’m asking,” Ender wrote in his letter.

The donation of cereal is enough for more than 16,000 meals and is a great product for pantries because it’s shelf-stable, according to a news release from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The food bank will put a good portion of this cereal into its inventory list, meaning all of the partners and pantries in its 11-county service area, including Butler County, have the option to get some of the cereal, according to the food bank.
