Dukes drop 4th in row
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte guard Leemire Goldwire isn't ready to say he's broken out of a recent shooting slump.
But Goldwire took a big step towards that goal, scoring 21 points as the 49ers held off a second-half rally to beat Duquesne 89-82 in an Atlantic 10 game Sunday.
Lamont Mack had 19 points, Charlie Coley 16 and Ian Andersen 13 for Charlotte (16-12, 7-7 Atlantic 10 Conference), which won its second straight at home and moved into seventh place in the A10 standings.
Reggie Jackson scored 17 points, Kojo Mensah and Bill Clark had 14 each and Gary Tucker 10 for the Dukes (16-11, 6-8), who lost their fourth consecutive game.
The 49ers led by as many as 12 points in the second half, the last time at 65-53 on two Phil Jones free throws with 10:06 left, but Duquesne whittled Charlotte's lead down to 82-80 on Jackson's 3-pointer with 1:39 remaining.
