David P. Slagel

David P. Slagel

David P. Slagel, 80, of Butler passed away Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.

Born Jan. 15, 1935, in Etna, Pa., he was a son of the late Edward J. and Josephine (Isternes) Slagel.

He was employed as a field engineer by the Burroughs Corp. for 26 years.

He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

He served for eight years on the St. Paul Parish Council and was the past president. He was also the president of the Holy Name Society of St. Paul for four years and president for the Blue Army of St. Paul for six years. He enjoyed bicycling and his Lionel trains.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp.

Surviving are two sons, Phillip (Rachel) Slagel of San Diego, Calif., and David Slagel of Butler; one daughter, Lisa (Joel) Ledford of Fort Scott, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane (Phillip) Clarke of Franklin, Pa., and Donna K. Slagel of West View, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Weilert) Slagel, who passed away June 29, 2015; one daughter; one brother; and one sister.

SLAGEL — There will be no public visitation for David P. Slagel, who died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, with the Rev Nick Argentieri, pastor, to officiate. Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.Arrangements are under the direction of the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E.
