Edward E. Wass, 84, of Gibsonia, Richland Township, and Washburn, W.Va., passed away Sunday.

Born Jan. 31, 1926, in Washburn, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ralph Paul and Lenna (Davisson) Wass Sr.

He was the beloved husband for 43 years of the late Marilyn E. (Hazlett) Wass, who passed away March 26, 2009. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Wass.

He was the loving father of Sandra M. (Clayton) Homer of Franklin and David L. (Bobbi) Wass of Middlesex Township; dear brother of Ralph Wass Jr. of Pennsylvania, Betty Burwell of Ohio, Frank Wass of Ohio, Elwin Wass of Florida and Margaret Hatfield of West Virginia; and loving grandfather of Douglas (Ashley) Homer, Jonathan (Christy Jones) Homer, Samuel (Brandy) Homer, Katie (Mike) Tweedy and Dana (Jimmy) Papst. In addition, he is survived by three precious great-grandchildren, Dylan Homer, Cambria Homer and Gabriel Homer-Jones.

Edward proudly served his country during World War II as a staff sergeant, paratrooper and drill instructor in the U.S. Army, representing the 11th Airborne Division, and he was stationed in Luzon in the Philippine Islands. He witnessed the surrender of Japan and the signing of the peace treaty. After the U.S. bombing in Tokyo, Japan, he played a role in the post relief efforts there.

Having been born and raised on his family farm in Washburn, W.Va., he developed a true passion for farming and as a result, he was a wonderful vegetable farmer. In addition, he was an avid deer and small game hunter.

<B>WASS</B> — The family of Edward E. Wass, who died Sunday, June 13, 2010, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, 724-443-1505. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday before the funeral services at times to be announced.
