West Liberty sweeps Rock in twinbill

The sixth-ranked Slippery Rock University baseball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Thursday against West Liberty State.

West Liberty State (10-13) scored four runs in the top of the first inning en route to the 9-3 win in the first game and took the second game 11-6.

In the first game, SRU's Chase Rowe (Knoch), Chris Tolliver and Brad Wilson hit consecutive home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the nightcap, West Liberty scored five first-inning runs to take control early.

SRU (21-4) used a four-run third inning to tie the game at 5, highlighted by Billy Wolfe's bases-clearing double.

The Rock's Travis Trimber (Karns City later added an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Josh Rape (Mars) allowed three earned runs on five hits in the final 2

innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Brittany Hahn pitched a one-hit shutout in The Rock's 3-0 game-one victory over St. Vincent College and Courtney Conron threw five shutout innings in a 6-1 win in the nightcap.The two victories improved The Rock's overall record to 17-9, surpassing last year's total of 15 in head coach Vashion Johnson's inaugural campaign.Hahn struck out two and didn't walk a batter in improving to 8-2.Andrea Murdock had three hits, two RBI and scored a run in the first game. Stacey Rhoades, Laura Campbell and Melissa Lowrey had two hits apiece in the second game.SRU swept a doubleheader from Point Park College 7-2 and 4-1 Wednesday.

The Rock (4-7) dispatched Penn State-Behrend 7-2 in Wednesday's match as John Crossley, Paul DiTomasso, Adam Shosky and Zack Thomas all were double winners.
