Gill

Donald M. Gill, 78, of Hampton Township died Saturday in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born Aug. 29, 1931, in Pittsburgh, to the late Walter and Agnes (Malloy) Gill.

Mr. Gill retired in 1992 as chief of police of the VA Butler Healthcare.

He also served his country for 21 years in the Armed Forces. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Noble (APA 218), landing troops on shore. He received many commendations, including the Korean War Ribbon, a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars for task force landing. He departed the Navy in 1957 and joined the U.S. Air Force. He finished his career with a tour of duty in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, he received more distinguished commendations, including the Purple Heart.

He is a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans Society and Butler American Legion Post 417.

He was a member of St. Catherine of Sweden Roman Catholic Church, where he has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1963.

He loved golf and played with the Broken Tee Golf League at Roseridge.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather and soldier and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Masako Bonnie Gill, whom he married July 20, 1956; two daughters, Kathy (Timothy) Schofield of Hampton Township and Valerie (Mark) Jaspert of Shaler Township; one granddaughter, Nicole Schofield; and two grandsons, Alan and Matthew Jaspert.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Walter Gill Jr. and Dante Gill.

King, Jr. Funeral Home Inc.</B>, 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine of Sweden Roman Catholic Church, 2554 Wildwood Road in Wildwood with Father Regis Farmer officiating.
