Sexual assault case moves to county court Cranberry man charged with assaulting teen
CRANBERRY TWP — A Cranberry man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl waived his preliminary hearing Friday and the case will go to county court.
Andrew R. Duty, 51, of Cranberry Township, will have a formal arraignment in Common Pleas Court in September on four felony and one misdemeanor charge stemming from his alleged sexual abuse of the teenaged girl after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing.
Duty’s charges include aggravated indecent assault by forcible compulsion and sexual abuse of children, both second-degree felonies; corruption of minors and sexual extortion, both third-degree felonies; and first-degree misdemeanor indecent assault by forcible compulsion.
Cranberry Township police stated Duty, on various occasions between April and November 2020, would turn off Wi-Fi in his house and request sexual favors from the 14-year-old in exchange for restoring the internet. He would also tell the victim he possessed “blackmail” he could use against her, according to an affidavit attached to the criminal complaint.
The 51-year-old man also, police allege, took lewd photographs of the girl on several occasions.
The most severe charge against Duty — aggravated indecent assault — is only deployed when the defendant penetrates the victim.
Court records also indicate that, roughly three weeks after Duty was charged, the manufactured housing plan in which Duty lived filed for eviction and took possession of the property in late May.
