Butler police are seeking a robbery suspect accused of pilfering a woman's wallet and punching a man who tried to stop him early Sunday morning at an apartment on North Washington Street.

Joshua Michael Crispin, 28, no known address, is wanted on a felony warrant in the case.

Police said they identified Crispin as the alleged robber after the department pulled surveillance footage and posted it on their Facebook page.

While on patrol shortly before 1:30 a.m., police said, Lt. John Johnson noticed a disturbance outside an apartment on the 200 block of North Washington, according to court documents.

The officer moments later spotted a man “wearing all dark clothing run out the door,” according to court documents, followed by several other people yelling after him.

At the apartment, police found Suellen Leitch crying. She told Johnson that the man seen running had just shoved her down after taking her wallet, which contained $140 in currency, from her purse.

She said she only knew the man by the name “Josh.”

The suspect in his getaway also punched Alan Kelley in the face after Kelley told the man to return the wallet, documents said. Kelley suffered minor cuts to his lips in the altercation.

Johnson later reviewed surveillance video from the A-Plus convenience store on West Jefferson Street where Leitch, Kelley and the suspect along with others had walked to a short time before the robbery.

The video captured an image of the suspect. Police posted the photo on their Facebook page, hoping it would lead to the man's identification.

It didn't take long for a tip to come in, documents said, identifying Crispin as the man in the photo.

He is wanted on charges of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment.
