Following a crash along Brownsdale Road in Forward Township on Monday morning, Dec. 22, bystanders jumped into action to save another person’s life.

The bystanders pulled a man in his 50s from a burning vehicle, according to reports.

I was just doing what anyone would do,” one of the bystanders said through Seneca Valley School District. This bystander was a bus driver for the district.

He came across the crash while on his way to pick up students, stopped and used a fire extinguisher on the flames.

The bystanders also used a trailer hitch to break the window of the vehicle prior to pulling the man to safety.

Randy Hoffman Jr., assistant chief at the Callery Volunteer Fire Company, was so impressed by the bystanders’ actions that he reached out to the Butler Eagle.

“You don’t see that very often. A lot of the time, people will just go about their day when something bad happens,” Hoffman said.

The unfortunate truth is this might not have been what “anyone would do.”

It is, however, what anyone should do.

We applaud the bravery of the bystanders who didn’t just go about their day, but took the situation into their own hands and saved someone’s life in the process.
