Donald Spiece

Reitred Col. Donald Calhoun Spiece, 91, died March 29 in Tucson, Ariz.

He was born in Big Run, Jefferson County, and was raised in Butler.

Col. Spiece was a career U.S. Army officer and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of June 1943, and served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Lee) Gorton, to whom he was married for over 61 years; and children, Sue Danielson, Don Jr., and Steve.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Gladys Spiece; his sister, Margaret Burns, and his brother Bill.
