Fire severely damages Cranberry home
CRANBERRY TWP — A township home was severely damaged by fire Wednesday evening.
Authorities on the scene said that neighbors reported a fire at 134 Hope Road at around 8:15 p.m.
John Parastas, assistant chief of the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, said the blaze already was extensive by the time firefighters arrived.
“It was heavily involved,” Parastas said. “We went right to a defensive attack.”
The home had extensive exterior smoke damage, and parts of the roof had caved in.
Parastas said crews had the fire knocked down at about 9:40 p.m.
No one was injured and no damage estimate was available.
Cranberry Township Police said the homeowners, Mary and Gary Thompson, were not home.
John Kinsler, Mary Thompson's brother, was at the scene.
He said the Thompsons have been away on vacation for the last week.
“They were supposed to be home tomorrow night.”
Multiple other departments responded.
