North Catholic girls pounce on Freeport; Slippery Rock’s Romanovich, Jordan combine for 57 in rout: Roundup

Led by Madison Romanovich’s 30 points, Slippery Rock girls basketball blew out Oil City 70-39.

One of the top scorers in Butler County this season, Romanovich also had five rebounds and three steals for the Rockets (4-1). But she was outdone in the quest for a triple-double as Brielle Jordan finished with 27 points, 10 steals and five assists; and Gia Kovacik had seven points, nine boards and seven dimes.

North Catholic 58, Freeport 34 — Harmony Jones produced a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Trojanettes (3-3, 1-1 WPIAL Section 1-4A) routed the Yellowjackets (3-3, 1-1) in their third game in three days after the She Got Game Classic in Washington, D.C.

Sam Weir had 15 points and Brady Wehner 10 for NC. Nia DiSanti led Freeport with nine.

Union/A-C Valley 49, Curwensville 32 — The Falcon Knights (2-3) cruised behind a big double-double from from Maddy Dehart, who had a career-high 27 points and 15 rebounds in this one. She went 6 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Emma Raschiatore had 11 points and five boards, and Raelynn Fletcher scored seven points.

Burrell 36, Knoch 27 — Neah Ewing led the Knights (0-7, 0-1 Section 1-4A) with seven points. They play again Thursday at Highlands.

Boys basketball

Cole Johnston dropped 19 points, including 14 in the first half, but Karns City fell to on the road 68-46 to Cranberry Area.

Johnston made a game-high three 3-pointers for the Gremlins (3-2). Owen Kaufman provided 10 points, eight of them in the second half.

Boys wrestling

Slippery Rock fell to 0-3 in dual-meets this season with a 45-27 loss at Redbank Valley. No stats were reported.

Boys hockey

Brady Helsel stopped 18 of 21 shots, just enough for Knoch to cling to a 4-3 win over Burrell at Frozen Pond Arena.

Synjun Mchattie scored the decisive goal after dishing out two previous assists, and Brady Linamen and Cam Christie each had a goal and assist for the D2 Gold Division-leading Knights (8-3-1-0).

Moon 9, Freeport 1 — Aiden Bauman had the Yellowjackets’ lone goal in the second period. Freeport is 0-6-1-1 on the year and near the bottom of the Varsity A Blue Division.

Quaker Valley 9, North Catholic 2 — Landon Meyers had a goal and assist as the Trojans fell to 4-5-0-1 overall against the Varsity A Blue Division leader.
