Cranberry firm fined $25,000 in worker's death
CRANBERRY TWP — A company that admitted it provided inadequate fall protection to a worker who plunged 48 feet through a skylight to his death was fined $25,000 and sentenced to one year's probation Thursday.
American Asbestos Control Co., of Cranberry Township pleaded guilty in April to one federal count of willful violation of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
Saul F. Martinez, 27, of High Point, N.C., died in April 2005 on an asbestos removal job in Ambridge, Beaver County.
American Asbestos workers expressed concerns about the safety of the project, prosecutors said. American Asbestos, through a temporary company, hired Martinez, a Mexican national, to assist on the job.
A message left for American Asbestos Thursday evening was not returned.
