Moore

Musser Maclay Moore Jr. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, at his home in Madison, Wis., at the age of 92.

A Ridgewood, N.J., resident from 1957 to 1996, “Muss” was born in Ridley Park, Pa., amid the flu pandemic of 1918. The son of Musser M. Moore and Ella Vera Allison, he grew up in nearby Narberth, Pa. Immediately after his birth, Muss spent the first days of his life with his mother in an outdoor tent ward temporarily erected to keep newborns apart from flu patients in the hospital.

A graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Muss pursued a career in aeronautical engineering and manufacturing.

His career began in Hartford, Conn., where he met and married Jean Murray Beighley of Zelienople and later had five children, all raised and educated through the Ridgewood School System.

During his career, Muss held positions with Vertol Aviation, Boeing Aircraft, Curtiss-Wright Aeronautics, and the Federal Electric Corp. in Paramus, N.J.

Muss was a proud village resident and cherished the friends made and years spent in Ridgewood.

He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 5, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church. Muss served as a trustee of the church and also taught Sunday school during the 1970s.

At work, Muss pursued his favorite pastime as chairman of the Federal Electric Golf Club and League. In addition to golf, Muss was an avid photographer, model railroader, Jersey Shore aficionado and an active participant in all of his children’s activities.

Those who knew Muss will remember him for his humorous mannerisms, friendly demeanor and dedication to all that he pursued. He was eagerly helpful to all and a burden to none.

Married in 1948, Musser’s wife, Jean, passed away in 2006.

Muss is survived by his five children, Nina, Mussie, Pam, Ted and Tina; and seven grandchildren.

Muss enjoyed a full, wonderful life, complete with challenge, achievement and joy. Muss remained independent and active until his final days. In his 90s, Muss traveled to Hawaii, California, Yellowstone, the Tetons and the Grand Canyon Region on vacations with his children.

His last days were comfortably attended by HospiceCare of Madison, Wis., and for that the family is extremely grateful.
