Gary Eugene Whittington, 67, formerly of Butler, passed away Tuesday in a nursing home in Colorado Springs, Colo., after being diagnosed with cancer.

Born Aug. 5, 1949, in Butler, Gary lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the past 30 years.

Gary is survived by his wife, Erika; two sons, Brian and his wife, and Michael; and one daughter, Jennifer; all of Arizona.

He is also survived by his brother, John D. Whittington and his wife, Lorna; and several nieces and nephews; all of Butler.

Gary faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for more than 30 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired as a Spec 7. He enjoyed playing guitars. He was one of the original guitar players for the Gents of Butler. He also loved his four dogs and several cats. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
