Freeport girls basketball smothers Derry: Roundup

Senior Nia DiSanti drained 17 points as Freeport girls basketball opened WPIAL Section 1-4A play by defeating Derry 49-22 on Thursday.

The Yellowjackets (3-2, 1-0) built a 29-13 lead by halftime.

Karns City 39, Keystone 33 — Hannah Summerville paced the Gremlins with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, in the win.

South Fayette 82, Mars 35 — Alexis Cashdollar’s 24 points weren’t enough for the Planets, who dropped to 2-3.

Mars faces off with North Hills on Monday.

Oakland Catholic 43, North Catholic 21 — The Trojanettes (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season. Harmony Jones (six points) led North Catholic, which will face Somerset Academy (Fla.) on Saturday at the She Got Game Classic.

Slippery Rock 62, Titusville 31 — Slippery Rock (3-1) doubled up the visitors, with several players having impressive nights.

Madison Romanovich continued her superb start to the season with 24 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in just three quarters of play.

Gia Kovacik contributed a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds. Brielle Jordan added 18 points and six assists.

Brookville 45, Union/A-C Valley 12 — Maddy Dehart scored six points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Falcon Knights.

Boys basketball

Luke Caldwell bucketed 17 points and Casey Darr and Fred Campagna added 11 apiece as Slippery Rock downed Perry Traditional Academy 48-37.

Bowling

Both Butler teams improved to 2-1 on the season with 7-0 sweeps of Seneca Valley on Wednesday.

The Tornado boys were led by Daytn Kniess’ 241. David Fisher added a 214 and Max Walker a 204.

For the girls, Kaylee Kniess had a high-game of 144.
