BlueSox' Spangler ties mark

Seneca Valley graduate Zach Spangler worked a scoreless 12th inning to tie the Butler BlueSox record for saves in a season during a 3-1 win over the Jamestown Jammers in Prospect League action Tuesday night in Jamestown, N.Y.

Spangler now has 13 saves this season as the BlueSox improved to 19-18 overall, 6-4 in the second half.

Matt Hansen, who finished with three hits for Butler, drove in the game’s first run when he singled in Allan Hooker.

Curtis Olvey evened the game for the Jammers in the eighth with a solo home run.

Hansen got the BlueSox going again in the 12th. He led off with a single off Jammers reliever Matt Minnick, who threw two innings. David Marcus was hit by a pitch. Mitch Machi drew a walk to load the bases.

Jared Grove walked to put Butler ahead 2-1 and Chucky Vazquez followed with a single to add an insurance run.

Jamie Switalski threw five innings in relief, striking out four and walking two to earn the win for the BlueSox.

Jamestown fell to 2-7 in the second half, 21-18 overall.
