Eva Stutz powers Butler girls basketball to 4-0 start; Karns City, SV boys win: Roundup

Butler dropped 26 first-quarter points on host New Castle and cruised to a 60-19 girls basketball victory Friday night.

Eva Stutz scored 16 points to power the Golden Tornado (4-0) and Malina McElroy netted 13.

Butler’s home opener is Tuesday against Shaler.

Bethel Park 51, Mars 28 — Alexis Cashdollar scored 14 points in this lopsided loss for the Planets.

Kennedy Catholic 52, Knoch 40 — The Knights could not overcome a 10-point halftime deficit, despite 15 points and five treys from Neah Ewing.

Kennedy Catholic’s Tori Harvey led all scorers with 23 points.

North Clarion 48, Union/A-C Valley 42 — Leading by one point after three quarters, the Falcon Knights allowed 20 points to the Wolves in the final period.

Maddy Dehart paced U/ACV’s effort with 22 points. Sydney Baumcratz scored 21 for North Clarion.

Boys basketball

Andrew Omasits netted 18 points, one of three Seneca Valley players to reach double digits, as the Raiders scored a 54-44 win over visiting Montour.

Ryan Priester added 11 points for SV and Owen Congdon 10.

Brandon Bennett tallied 15 points, the lone Spartan to score in double figures.

Karns City 67, Curwensville 29 — At the Union Tournament, the Gremlins allowed just 10 second-half points to the Golden Tide.

Cole Johnston scored 21 points in the win. Xavier Bartoe made two of KC’s five 3-pointers and finished with 12 points.

Slippery Rock 57, West Middlesex 38 — The Rockets outscored the Big Red 35-22 in the second half at the latter’s tip-off tournament.

Connor Zorn and Doug Popovec scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Slippery Rock.

North Catholic 74, Saint Mary's (Md.) 64 — Jason Fredericks drained five 3-pointers, scoring 19 total points for the Trojans at their own tip-off tournament.

Jude Rottmann scored 21 points in the win, and Brandon Pickett 11.

Saint Mary's, from Annapolis, was paced by 18 points from Jovanni Hall.

Mercer 71, Moniteau 28 — Ian Ross scored 11 points for the Warriors.

Brockway 47, Union 44 — The Golden Knights narrowly lost at their own tip-off tournament. Trent Fleming sank 16 points in defeat.

Bowling

Chance Evans rolled games of 245 and 265, finishing with a 704 series to lead Seneca Valley’s boys to a 7-0 sweep of Freeport. Nathan Leslie added a 200 game for SV.

Christian Como had a 199 for Freeport.

The Yellowjackets girls swept the Raiders, with Hannah Windows’ 652 series including games of 201, 227 and 224. Teammate Kylie McConahy had a 624 series, with a high game of 214.
