Riley Kontul booked her second ticket to the PIAA Class 2A girls golf individual championships this season. For as talented as she is on the links, her approach as a teammate might be even more noteworthy.

The sophomore was a large reason why North Catholic’s girls golf team won its first WPIAL Class 2A team title.

“She could come in and just kinda be very aloof and (say), ‘I’m only gonna play with the top players,’” Trojanettes coach Jennifer Campbell said. “And she is never like that. ... It doesn’t matter who we’re practicing with for the day or who we’re playing against. She’s never condescending to anyone she golfs with.

“In fact, she’s helpful. She wants people — especially her teammates — she wants them to do well.”

Kontul finished fifth at the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championship with a 26-over across two rounds. She was the lone Butler County girls golfer to reach the PIAA Golf Individual Championships, where she finished 10th and medaled by shooting a 13-over 157 over two rounds.

For her efforts, she’s been named the Butler Eagle’s 2025 Girls Golfer of the Year.

“I think she’ll come back as a junior and ... every time she’s in a matchup against the top girls, whether it’s teams in our section or not, she knows those top golfers just from playing tournaments all year round,” Campbell said. “I bet you she’ll wanna be within five strokes of every round of finishing with those girls.”
