Chemical spill reported at Cranberry business

Emergency crews responded Wednesday morning, Nov. 26, to an accidental chemical spill at a business on Commonwealth Drive in Cranberry Township.

Cranberry Township firefighters were dispatched around 9:15 a.m. after a container of nitric acid was accidentally released at 770 Commonwealth Drive, a property owned by Fresenius Kabi USA.

No injuries were reported, according to Butler County Emergency Services Dispatch reports.

The chemical produced a red vapor cloud, leading employees to exit the building while firefighters and the county’s hazmat team secured the scene, according to dispatch reports.

A third-party cleanup contractor was brought in to handle the remaining material.

Fresenius Kabi USA is a global health care company that specializes in lifesaving medicines and technologies for infusion, transfusion and clinical nutrition.
