PIHL hockey roundup: Butler, Mars cruise to blowout wins to stay atop standings

Jase Renwick scored three goals, and Aden Devore added two goals and two assists as Butler routed Wheeling Catholic 10-1 Tuesday night at Wesbanco Arena.

The defense held Wheeling to just seven shots, with Corbin Holt recording six Tornado saves. Butler is 7-1 and in fourth in Class A Gold.

Mars 12, Westmont Hilltop 0 — The Planets stayed undefeated in regulation (8-1, one OT loss) and atop Class A Gold with the win at 1st Summit-Cambria County War Memorial.

Garrett Myers, Michael Demarco and Max Pitkins all had two goals for Mars, with Myers adding an assist. Xavier Bossola had a goal and three assists, and Carter Gallagher stopped on nine shots he faced in net.

Monday games

Defending PIHL and state champion Seneca Valley scored three goals in the third period to pull away from Central Catholic for a 5-2 win at Alpha Ice Complex.

Braden Morin recorded a hat trick, including the first two goals of the game, and had an assist for the Raiders. Cooper Hoehn added two assists.Matthew Gilchrist recorded 24 saves.

The Raiders are 8-0 and atop Class AAA.

Knoch 5, Connellsville 4 — Synjun Mchattie scored three goals at Frozen Pond Arena, including the final one for the Knights that held up despite three late Connellsville goals. Brady Linamen had a goal and two assists.

Knoch holds the top spot in Division 2 Gold at 8-3.
