PITTSBURGH — Officials at Pittsburgh International Airport are going to spend about $300,000 on an advertising campaign aimed at drawing Ohio residents over the border to fly out of Pittsburgh.

The Allegheny County Airport Authority on Friday approved spending the money in the Cleveland, Akron and Canton areas. Airport spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny says the authority will promote the airport's lower average fares and better on-time flight performance compared to the Cleveland airport.

The campaign will include TV, radio, billboards and online advertising.

PITTSBURGH — The deputy superintendent of the Pittsburgh Public Schools has been nominated to replace outgoing superintendent Mark Roosevelt.A committee has recommended that 60-year-old Linda Lane be named the new head of the state's second-largest school system. The board will vote on the recommendation Monday night.Roosevelt announced earlier this year that he was leaving Pittsburgh after five years to become president of Antioch College in Ohio.Lane has been in Pittsburgh for three years. Previously, she was the deputy superintendent of schools in Des Moines, Iowa.

PITTSBURGH — The Attorney General's office says several people have been arrested for breaking into Western Pennsylvania veterinary clinics and stealing drugs that were then sold at parties in Pittsburgh.A grand jury Friday indicted six people involved in the scheme. Authorities allege the ring was led by Brandon Wise, of Plum, who was charged with burglary, theft, drug possession and other charges.Authorities say the ring burglarized at least nine clinics and more than 24 bottles of Ketamine and other drugs were stolen.Officials allege Wise would cook the animal tranquilizer Ketamine and sell it in a powdered form at raves around the city.Wise and the five others charged in the ring were arraigned Friday. It wasn't immediately known if Wise had an attorney.

STROUDSBURG — A runaway steer remains on the loose in northeastern Pennsylvania after it was shot and wounded by police.The steer escaped from a farm in Stroud Township on Wednesday as it was about to go to slaughter. The animal's owner then contacted police.The Pocono Record of Stroudsburg reports Stroud Area Regional Police shot the bull, named Super Red, with a rifle on Thursday.The round hit the animal in the head, but it survived and ran off.
