William Jervis

William Bruce Jervis, 89, of Torrance State Hospital and an Ebensburg native, passed away Saturday at Indiana Regional Hospital.

Born Jan. 6, 1927, near Ebensburg, he was the son of the late David Marshall and Vera Viola (Johns) Jervis.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his sisters, Jane Rector of Grove City and Winifred Harlan of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill's family moved to Slippery Rock in 1928, and he graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1944. That year he entered the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, graduating in 1947. In 1948, he entered Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., and received a bachelor of divinity degree in 1952.

He was ordained as a Baptist minister in Harlansburg and had pastored a Baptist Church near Townville, Pa.

He had been a patient at Torrance State Hospital for most of his adult life, beginning in 1961.

JERVIS — A commemoration for the life of William Bruce Jervis, who died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, will be conducted at the family's convenience.Interment will take place at the Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg.Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Ebensburg.
