Summit Township to retain Saxonburg police protection

Officials plan for more hours

SUMMIT TWP — Supervisors are planning to renew a coverage agreement between Summit Township and the Saxonburg police department through 2022.

Supervisor Rick Green, who acts as liaison between the township and the police department, said there is $40,000 in the 2022 budget dedicated to coverage for the Saxonburg police. The department is even increasing its scheduling for Summit Township, from 10 to 12 hours a week to 16.

According to Green, traffic patrol is one of the main reasons the police coverage has been requested, and they have been cooperative and accommodating to requests.

“We did it for safety and security for our residents,” Green said Wednesday. “Whatever we ask, they do.”
