Dretha I. Hardesty went home to be with her Lord at 10:40 a.m. Monday at Grove Manor, Grove City, where she had lived for the past seven years.

She was 89 years old and formerly lived at Spruce Wood Commons, Slippery Rock.

She was born on July 5, 1923, in Rimersburg to Thomas Guntrum and Grace (Kent) Guntrum.

She had been employed in the dietary department of Grove City College.

She was a member of the Wayside Community Church, Findley Township, Mercer County. She was baptized at the age of 83.

She enjoyed doing embroidery and enjoyed dancing in her younger years. She enjoyed telling stories of early life and things that go bump in your life. Children always went to her “candy drawer” when visiting. She loved to read.

She was married to Arthur Hardesty in February 1946, and he died in May 1978.

Dretha is survived by her daughter, Kathleen K. Nock and her husband, Paul, of Slippery Rock; two granddaughters, Lori Sue Shah of Grove City and Amy K. Claycomb of Grove City; five great-grandchildren, Derek Claycomb, Rebecca Claycomb, Katie Claycomb, Luke Shah and Caleb Shah; two brothers, John Guntrum of San Bernardino, Calif., and Charles E. Benn of Grove City; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Lisa Ann Grim; her sisters, Maude, Gertie, Sarah, Grace and an infant sister, Lovine; and two brothers, Hugh and Sam.

HARDESTY — Visitation for Dretha I. Hardesty, who passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville.

A funeral service will follow at noon with the Rev. G. Kenton Shaw and the Rev. Lester Rowan, both of the Wayside Community Church of Mercer, officiating. Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery.
