Doris Eileen Wise
Doris Eileen Bicker Wise, 84, of Cabot went to rest with her Lord on Friday at her home in the presence of her loving family.
Doris was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Cabot to Walter H. Bicker and Hazel B. Watson Bicker.
She was a life member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver and sang in the choir for 26 years.
She graduated from WinfieldClinton High School in 1946, and entered the Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She became a registered nurse in 1949.
As a RN, she worked at Allegheny Valley Hospital, the Red Cross Polio Hospital in New Jersey, Palo Alto Hospital in California, Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., and she was the college nurse at A&I College in Kingsville, Texas.
She married Ensign Gerald W. Wise, U.S. Navy, a naval aviator and her high school classmate in 1950, and they had been married for 63 years. She was a wonderful person, a devoted wife and mother. She loved boating, sailing and crossword puzzles. She was a chalk and charcoal portrait artist, a pianist,a Boy Scout den mother,and she helped with Meals on Wheels.
She lived in several states in the United States, also on Midway Island in the Pacific Ocean, and, for three years, near London, England.She traveled extensively in the British Isles and throughout the European countries. She especially enjoyed her visit to Israel.
Surviving are her husband, Commander Gerald W. Wise, U.S. Navy, retired; two sons, Jason W. Wise of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Mark G. Wise of Cabot; her brother, Ronald D. Bicker of Cabot; one nephew, Alan D. Bicker of Gibsonia; and one niece, Rhonda S. Adamovits of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
WISE — Friends of Doris Eileen Bicker Wise, who died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Wilson officiating.Interment will follow in Zion U.M. Church cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Three Rivers Hospice for their care during her struggle with cancer.
