Butler County Community College women’s volleyball will play for seventh place Saturday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championships.

That came after the No. 3 Pioneers lost their second straight match of the tournament, and just their second all season, to No. 2 Minnesota West 3-1 in Friday’s fifth-place consolation semifinals. Set scores were 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-13.

BC3 will now face another Pennsylvania junior college, eight-seed Northampton Community College, at 1 p.m. ET Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Josie Russo led the Pioneers with 13 kills and nine blocks, and Dakota Weldon had 10 kills. Molly Bissell had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, as did Anora Robare with 33 assists and 11 digs.

But BC3 was held to just a .116 kill percentage after coming into the tournament with one of the best attacking rates in the nation. It had a .385 kill percentage in the third-set win.

The Pioneers are going for one of their best finishes in the national championships. They have placed fifth twice in their previous four appearances.
