Police charge man with sexually assaulting a teen

Claypoole

Butler police Monday night arrested a city man after they were called to his Center Avenue home for a report of a child being sexually assaulted.

Paul A. Claypoole, 39, who faces a list of charges, is being held in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.

Police said they were alerted by a man who was walking by the defendant's house about 9:35 p.m. and witnessed the assault through a window without curtains that faced the street.

The window was about 10 feet from the street.

“(The eyewitness) described the perpetrator as being fat and he was not wearing any clothing,” according to court documents.

The victim also was naked, the witness recounted, and was being assaulted in what appeared to be a laundry room at the home.

Police said the child is 15 years old. Claypoole, in the police complaint, is described as weighing 300 pounds. He is listed as 5 feet, 8 inches tall.

District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Claypoole on felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault.
