Warrant issued for woman charged with felony escape
Authorities are seeking a Butler woman who escaped home detention by removing her electronic monitoring ankle bracelet earlier this week.
Butler County detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant Tuesday for Sarah S. Schoeffel.
The defendant turned up missing Monday when staff at MHY Family Services notified the county's probation office the 39-year-old woman's device generated a tamper alarm.
MHY of Adams Township provides services for adult and juvenile offenders participating in the county's community monitoring program.
According to court records, officials placed Schoeffel on electronic monitoring Aug. 23 as part of the conditions for her participating in drug treatment court in Butler County.
Probation officers used GPS equipment to track down the bracelet, which detectives reported finding on the westbound ramp to Route 422 from Route 356. Evidence indicated the device had been cut off.
The probation office and Tim Fennell, the county's chief detective, later tried contacting Schoeffel by cell phone, but to no avail.
District Judge Kevin O'Donnell issued the warrant for Schoeffel, who is charged with a felony count of escape.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
