Bernstine behind event capacity bill
State Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10th, cosponsored a bill that would allow companies in the event industry to operate at 50-percent capacity with social distancing.
The bill would allow caterers, venues and other businesses, which are currently allowed to hold indoor events with up to 25 people and outdoor events with up to 250 people under Gov. Tom Wolf’s coronavirus restrictions, to host more people.
A social hall that can hold 1,000 people is now limited to 25 people, impacting community fundraisers, weddings, family celebrations, scouting ceremonies and other events, Bernstine said. He said most event businesses are small businesses that rely on other small businesses.
“I will continue to fight to help save the event industry and the thousands of indirect businesses that are supported by it,” Bernstine said.
“The governor’s unrealistic capacity restrictions will no doubt force countless businesses to permanently close. By failing to work with local officials and lawmakers on a viable solution, the governor has essentially placed millions of Pennsylvania workers on unemployment.”
