Slippery Rock Area school board member holds seat
Slippery Rock Area School Board will see the same three members representing Region 3, as the one incumbent defending her seat this year successfully retained it.
Residents from across Region 3 — which comprises Slippery Rock and West Liberty boroughs as well as Brady and Worth townships — voted to reelect Sara Whitman to the district’s school board during the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 4, according to unofficial election results reported in Butler County Bureau of Elections summary reports.
Whitman, who ran for reelection as a Republican, won the election with 1,050 votes, or 61% of the vote. Democrat Alyssa Hickson received 675 votes, or 39.3% of the vote, the unofficial results showed.
Whitman has served on the school board for nearly 10 years, having served on the education, personnel and operations committees.
Outside of the board, she does data management for a financial institution and several nonprofits. She is also a parent of a recent graduate of the district.
Whitman previously said she will aim to provide teachers and staff the tools to develop their skills for lifelong learning. She said she would also look to find creative and affordable ideas to give students more opportunities to explore interests.
Additionally, she said she would aim to further improve literacy through the district.
