2 incumbents, 1 former member and 1 newcomer elected to Moniteau school board

Four candidates — two incumbents, one former school board member and one newcomer — were chosen by Moniteau School District voters to serve on the school board for the next four years after general election results rolled in Tuesday night.

Board president Michael Panza and member Janeen Beatty were reelected, while former member Michael Baptiste and Kelly Rugg will also join the board in 2026, according to unofficial election results reported in Butler County Bureau of Elections summary reports.

Rugg came in first with 1,563 votes, or 20.2% of the vote. She was followed by Baptiste with 1,505 votes, or 19.5% of the vote, Beatty with 1,442 votes, or 18.6% of the vote, and Panza with 1,433 votes, or 18.5% of the vote.

They held off Democratic incumbent Linda Dillaman and Democratic challenger Celina Karnes.

Panza also was the only one running for a two-year term. He received 1,946 votes and will now have the chance to choose which term he wishes to serve. The board will have the option of appointing someone to the vacant position he doesn’t choose.

Panza has served on Moniteau’s school board for over 17 years and is currently the board’s president. A resident of Cherry Township, Panza has a 36-year background in public education, previously working as a music education teacher, assistant principal, principal and superintendent.

Baptiste is a Clay Township resident who served on Moniteau’s school board from 2019 to 2023. He previously said he is college professor and program coordinator at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he leads the sports management program.

Beatty has served on the school board since 2023. A resident of Venango Township, she is originally from Eau Claire and graduated from Moniteau in 2001. She is a program manager for the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency in Boyers, Pennsylvania.

Rugg is a resident of Cherry Valley. Currently working at the Beer Garden in Petrolia, she has served as vice president of Dassa McKinney PTO for the past several years. She has also been on multiple booster groups for sports and has coached cheerleading at the youth and varsity levels for over 10 years.

The school district serves families in Marion, Venango, Cherry, Washington, Clay and Concord townships; and the boroughs of West Sunbury, Cherry Valley and Eau Claire.
