Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy will serve another four years in the role, voters decided Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the polls.

Dandoy, the Democratic candidate, will serve another term as mayor after receiving 1,476 votes, or 55.9% of the vote, in the general election against Republican candidate Don Shearer, according to unofficial election results from the summary report posted by the Butler County Bureau of Elections.

Shearer, a current city councilman, received 1,075 votes, or 40.7% of the vote, in the race.

Write-in votes totaled 91 votes, or 3.4% of the vote. Tom Donaldson, a former city mayor, was running a write-in campaign.

“I got a lot of nice phone calls tonight already congratulating me. I’ve also gotten a call from Councilman Shearer, and we’re all good,” Dandoy said Tuesday evening.

Dandoy is a retired teacher from the Karns City Area School District and a former instructor at Butler County Community College and Slippery Rock University. He also is a past president of Butler Downtown.

He served two years on city council before taking office as mayor in 2022.

After the results came in, Shearer congratulated his opponent.

“I’m proud of the campaign I ran and the people that supported me,” Shearer said. “I take solace in the fact that a good man is in office, and I’m excited to see what he’ll do.”

Dandoy celebrated his win on Tuesday with a group of friends and family at his home. He expressed relief that the election season is now over.

“The process is not a whole lot of fun,” Dandoy said. “It’s great to get out and talk to residents, but I’m certainly relieved now that it’s all over.”

Dandoy said he will look ahead to the projects already planned for the city in the upcoming years, as well as initiatives to support city residents.

“We’re finally trying to get into the neighborhoods and help residents with maintaining their properties” he said.
