SRU men's basketball team falls to 0-6

Bill Johnson scored 26 points, but the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team lost to Glenville (W.V).) State College 80-61 Saturday in the consolation finals of the GSC/Theras-Pro Tournament.

The Rock (0-6) also received nine points and seven rebounds from Dejan Jancic.

Grove City College scored just 11 second-half points in a 60-42 loss to Lake Erie College for its third straight loss.

GCC (4-3) led 31-30 at the half, but finished the game with 25 turnovers.

Shawn Carr lead the Wolverines with nine points.

CCAC-South 55, BCCC 54 -The Pioneers fell just short in this game despite 18 points from Stephanie DeVore (Karns City) and 11 from Julie Wills (Seneca Valley).Renee Dunseath led South with 18 points.

Jerimiah Frederick was the only SRU wrestler to record two wins as The Rock lost three matches Saturday.Frederick scored the only points (a 3-1 decision) in a 34-3 loss to Mercyhurst and recorded an 8-6 decision in a 31-9 loss to George Mason.Chad Sichak led SRU in a 24-12 loss to Eastern Michigan with a pin.

Ellen Magee won the 50 and 100 free and diver Emily Hays swept the diving events to help the Grove City College women's team win its third straight meet to improve to 3-1 in a 128-106 win over Hiram.Magee, Jaclyn Bellissimo, Christine Bare and Ellen Keefer were members of the meet-clinching 400 free relay team (3:48.60). Bare also won the 1,000 and Karyn Rodgers the 200 fly.In the men's meet, the Woilverines also improved to 3-1 with a 135-99 win over Hiram.Caleb Courage won the 100 free and 200 IM, Ben Haring won the 50 free and joined Courage, Jeremy Harbaugh and John Newell (Butler) on the winning 400 free relay team (3:17.50).Andrew Gilbert won the 200 breaststroke, and along with Joel Boerckel, Matt Trollinger and Matt Ziders, won the 400 medley relay.Joe Riddell won the 1-meter diving and Mike Shantz won the 3-meter event.
