Rock wins doubleheader
Kalee LoFaso and Jessica Vrabel were winning pitchers Tuesday as the Slippery Rock University softball team swept a doubleheader from Savannah State 18-3 and 18-0 Wednesday.
In the first game, Melissa Lowrey hit a pinch-hit grand slam, Andrea Murdock had a homer, triple and three RBI and Carrie Casoni had a homer, single and two RBI.
LoFaso pitched three innings, struck out three and allowed two runs to get the victory.
Vrabel pitched four scoreless innings to get the win in Game 2. Jesse Gump had a triple, two singles and scored two runs.
Lowrey added two hits and Carolyn Curcio had three RBI.
The Rock (4-2) plays Fort Valley State Friday in South Carolina.
SRU's No. 3 doubles tandem of John Crosley and Alexander Shabalkin won 8-4 for the team's lone win in an 8-1 loss to Kutztown Wednesday.Each of SRU's single players lost in straight sets. The Rock fell to 2-4 with the loss.
