Butler Jr High Volleyball Tryouts… what a joke!

If there were weight and body type requirements… that should have been established prior to the tryouts. It was quite obvious when the girls exited the gymnasium after cuts were made last evening that not one girl with a roll or a bulge was picked for the team.

There were over 140 girls trying out for 50 spots. These tryout events should have been split up into 7th 8th and 9th grade evenings, giving more girls the opportunity to be seen and show the coaches (only 2 women!! for 140 girls!) their abilities and drive and desire to play. There was cheating and bullying going in throughout the try-out evenings. If a girl was required to "rotate" off the court and noticed a coach walking over she stayed on the court, providing for herself more court time and more time to be noticed. I say, kudos to the brave move of this girl, while not ethical, she received more time to be seen, more time to be noticed by the two coaches and I am quite sure a spot on the team. There were snide and rude remarks from one group of girls to another, "long pants are for losers" was yelled at a girl who opted to wear longer workout pants in lieu of the tight underpants-type volleyball shorts.

Again, I will reiterate my point; you must have more adult supervision at these events. There were well over 100 girls ranging in age from 12 to 15 and only 2 adults to supervise behavior and instruct.

I personally know 5 girls who made the team after going out only because their friends were, not because they had a true desire to be a volleyball player. They joined your team as a social group! Enjoy the sing-songy cheer-leadery banter and play.

Hey coaches … listen up… I played in volleyball at the highigh school and college level … I have played with and trained my daughhter and I know she has skills enough to qualify her to play at this level. While I was not the skinny girl on the court, nor will I ever be… ggenetics did not deal me those cards, I was the MVP my junior year and senior in high school. Athletes come in all shapes and sizes. Wake up ladies and learn the simple truth… girls come in all shapes and sizes!

I cannot wait for the season to start so that I can bring my daughter to games and show her just how poor your choices were. Your picks may look pretty out there but their whiter than white smiles and push up bras are not enough to carry a winning season.

No wonder Butler School sports have such a glorious history of losing seasons year after year! You pick based upon who the athlete's parents are, their financial status, their employment, their notoriety in the community. Don't even try to deny it… it is a dirty little secret that is that White Elephant in the living rooms of every resident of a child desiring to play in your spurious leagues.
