2 injuries reported in Thursday morning crash in Penn Township

Two people were taken to area hospitals after a pair of Ford SUVs collided head on Thursday morning, Oct. 30, on Route 8 in Penn Township, police said.

One vehicle was traveling southbound and crossed into the northbound lane after hydroplaning and struck the other vehicle head on around 9:30 a.m. in the area of 340 Pittsburgh Road, according to Penn Township police.

At least one of the drivers sustained suspected serious injuries, according to Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Alan Troyan.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals, police said. At least one was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital. Police said a LifeFlight helicopter was requested but could not respond due to weather.

Route 8 northbound was closed for a short time.

The state Department of Transportation, Penn Township fire, Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company and Butler Ambulance Service responded to the crash, along with police from Penn, Butler and Middlesex townships.
