Three teams have already locked up district playoff spots: Mars, Freeport and Karns City.

North Catholic is still hoping to make the dance and need a win over Hopewell to ensure it.

The Eagle will be at four games this week — Butler at Central Clarion (Brendan Howe), Karns City at Wilmington (Derek Pyda), Mercer at Slippery Rock (John Enrietto) and North Allegheny at Seneca Valley (William Pitts). According to reporter William Pitts, signs were on display at Seneca Valley’s NexTier Stadium announcing NFL Films was recording footage and audio of the game.

While the Steelers are hosting the Packers on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Raiders athletic director Heather Lewis said NFL Films’ presence was not for use during that broadcast. NBC typically runs a few seconds of highlights from a local high school football game near the home city each week.

Lewis declined to say what NFL Films was at Seneca Valley for. The 2026 NFL Draft will be held in Pittsburgh for the first time since 1948-49.

10:14 p.m.: Here’s everyone’s regular-season record and who makes the playoffs

So where to next? Here’s a rundown of everyone’s final record and who will be playing at least one more game in the postseason:

Butler - 7-3

Freeport - 7-3, 4-2 (qualified for WPIAL Class 3A playoffs)

Karns City - 8-2, 2-2 (qualified for District 9 Class 2A playoffs)

Knoch - 0-10, 0-5

Mars - 8-2, 4-1 (qualified for WPIAL Class 4A playoffs)

Moniteau - 3-7, 0-4

North Catholic - 7-3, 4-2 (qualified for WPIAL Class 3A playoffs)

Seneca Valley - 4-6, 2-4

Slippery Rock - 4-6, 1-4

Union/A-C Valley - 9-1, 4-0 (qualified for District 9 Class 1A playoffs)

10:05 p.m.: North Catholic forces a turnover on downs on red-zone stand, can salt game away

Hopewell had three chances to get a first down of 15 yards deep in North Catholic territory, but all three passes fell incomplete, at least two of them into the end zone, and the Trojans take over on downs with less than 3 minutes to go. It’s 44-36. Barring something unforeseen, NC looks like it’s heading to the playoffs.

9:47 p.m.: Avonworth routs Beaver, it all comes down to North Catholic-Hopewell

Avonworth, as expected, blew out Beaver 49-7. That means should the Trojans win this game, they secure a spot in the WPIAL playoffs. And if they lose, Beaver is not a factor in a three-way tie (that goes to a third tiebreaker for point differential in conference games).

But as this is being typed up, the Trojans just went up on a 24-yard touchdown pass to make it 44-36. But there’s still 8:13 to play in this marathon.

9:36 p.m.: North Catholic back up on another Will Waskiewicz TD

It’s a 37-36 Trojans lead early in the fourth quarter after another Will Waskiewicz touchdown grab, this on a screen pass that required him breaking a few tackles. (Derek is getting the kind of fantasy points he had hoped the last few weeks, but it’s too little, too late in our game. We’ll find out the winner in Thursday’s “Eye on Sports”!)

9:30 p.m.: Seneca Valley ends season with a big upset win

The Raiders close out Don Barclay’s first season with a big win to build off heading into the offseason, upsetting North Allegheny 21-18 to finish the year 4-6.

9:25 p.m.: North Catholic, Karns City games getting a little crazy

The floodgates have opened here in the second half in District 9 and the WPIAL.

Moments after Hunter Scherer’s third TD run, of 10 yards, made it 33-21 Karns City with 3:03, Wilmington answered with a long TD pass to get back within 33-28.

And North Catholic is suddenly trailing 36-30 late in the third quarter. Will Waskiewicz scored from 6 yards out to make it 30-21 Trojans, but Hopewell answered with a Nasir Wade TD and then a pick-six by Nick Thomas moments later. Remember, North likely can’t lose by more than six points to claim the final automatic playoff bid from its section. More than that, and it’s up to the voting committee. A win secures NC a spot for sure.

9:18 p.m.: Wilmington not going away after big kickoff return

Chase Miltchetree is keeping Wilmington in this one, returning a kickoff 79 yards and then scoring on a 7-yard run. Karns City’s lead is back down to one score in the closing minutes, 26-21.

9:16 p.m.: SPOILER ALERT, Seneca Valley!

The Raiders hold a surprising 21-10 lead in the fourth quarter after Danny Drennen returned an interception to the house. Cayden Parker in the third quarter took an Andrew Loebig screen pass 13 yards to the end zone, then on a trick play threw to tight end Adam Gehm for a two-point conversion to make it 14-7.

9:11 p.m.: Butler settles for 7-3 season, best in 30 years

It’s a banner year for a 6A program that has struggled for years to find success. Not only did the Tornado finish with a winning record for the first time since the early 2000s, but seven wins is the most since the early ’90s. An 8-2 record would’ve been the best since Tim Nunes coached the team in 1990 to the WPIAL semifinals and a 9-3-1 record. But still, as a second-year independent, Butler can claim it’s a winning program again.

9:02 p.m.: Hunter Scherer scores second of the night, Karns City re-extends lead

Scherer took a handoff on third-and-4 and ran it in from 16 yards out, and Karns City is back up two scores on Wilmington with 8:16 to play, leading 26-14.

8:51 p.m.: Wilmington marches down the field, draws to within six

Wilmington needed to go 91 yards to get into the end zone and did here in the fourth quarter, scoring on Chase Miltchetree’s 10-yard run to make it 20-14 Karns City.

8:50 p.m.: Nicco Baggetta breaks off a big one, keeps Butler in it

It’s been a quite second half at Clarion University so far, but Nicco Baggetta ended that with a nearly 50-yard QB keeper, cutting back right after crossing the line of scrimmage. Butler trails 21-14 early in the fourth quarter.

8:46 p.m.: Some highlights from the first half of North Catholic-Hopewell

Here are some Trojans scoring highlights courtesy JRM Sports:

Logan Schade breaks contain for long TD run:

Preston Simko puts North back up with long TD catch:

Tom Arth makes it 23-21 Trojans in final seconds of the half:

8:42 p.m.: Mars triggers running clock, Karns City in control still

The Planets lead 42-7 over Indiana and will get a quick game because of it. It’s one of three games already in the running clock; Moniteau trails St. Marys 49-0 in the third quarter, and Knoch trailed McKeesport at the half 51-0.

8:28 p.m.: Who is already in the district playoffs?

Four teams are a lock: Karns City and Union/A-C Valley in District 9, Freeport and Mars in the WPIAL. North Catholic is the only bubble team tonight. A win and it’s in. A loss, and things get complicated (see below).

8:16 p.m.: Halftime stats from Butler vs. Central Clarion

Courtesy of Brendan Howe ...

Butler:

QB Nicco Baggetta — 9 car., 55 yds.; 5/13, 62 yds., TD, INT

WR Tyson Pino — 2 rec., 22 yds., TD

Central Clarion:

RB Ethan Rex — 7 car., 49 yds., 2 TDs

8:14 p.m.: Slippery Rock on its way to season-ending win

Owen Long has a 26-yard TD run, Jacob Reich a 4-yarder and Doug Popovec returned an interception 45 yards to the house, and the Rockets are cruising over Mercer 28-3 at the half.

Some more highlights from the sidelines:

8:09 p.m.: Karns City run game humming in first half

The Gremlins are up 20-7 in their final game before the playoffs, and the run game is humming with 152 yards through 24 minutes, per reporter Derek Pyda.

8:04 p.m.: Follow BE Sports on social media for sideline highlights of Mercer-Slippery Rock

Social media editor Gricel Hernandez has ventured north this week with Scoop to capture video and highlights from Mercer at Slippery Rock. Follow her on our Instagram, Facebook and X feeds for some of the fun!

8:02 p.m.: Gabe Hein skies for big catch, does Mars score once more before half?

It sounds like the Sacred Heart commit is having a big half, and that extend to the final seconds. Planets QB Colin Yurisinec launched a hail mary to his top target, who brought it down while landing hard on his back inside the 1-yard line. It originally looked like the clock expired, but refs put 0.8 seconds back on the clock.

And Mars gave it to stud back Ayden Yocum for a sure TD, except ... Indiana stoned the senior just short of the goal line to keep it 35-7. So Mars does not trip the running clock just yet.

7:55 p.m.: Raiders have chance to end on high with upset

Seneca Valley is not playing for one of four WPIAL Class 6A playoff spots, but there’s still a chance for a big win against a conference rival. SV’s Andrew Loebig ran in from 2 yards out to cut into the deficit, making it 7-6 late in the first half. A win would be a good spoiler upset for the Raiders.

7:50 p.m.: North Catholic trails, here’s how it can make playoffs

The Trojans have a simple option to earn the final automatic spot in their section: beat Hopewell. Do that, and the third spot is secure. Lose? Well, it gets complicated.

As I outlined in “Eye on Sports” this week, the Trojans can lose and still automatically get in the WPIAL Class 3A tournament, but they effectively have to lose by less than six points to Hopewell to do so. (It also requires Beaver to lose to Avonworth, which is very likely to happen.) If North loses by more than six, Hopewell gets the third spot in the section by way of tiebreaker, and the Trojans will have to see if the WPIAL committee will give them one of the wildcard spots.

7:33 p.m.: Cole Johnston, Karns City sprint out to lead

Quarterback Cole Johnston has run for back-to-back touchdowns of 15 and 10 yards in the past few minutes to give the Gremlins (7-2) a 20-7 lead over Wilmington, per reporter Derek Pyda.

7:21 p.m.: Butler gets turnover, Kole Scott scores to put Slippery Rock ahead

Fortunes have shifted a little for the Tornado to start the second quarter. After Nicco Baggetta threw what was effectively an arm punt on third down, Butler’s defense forced a fumble and recorved deep in Central Clarion territory with a chance to tie it.

Meanwhile, a little south, Slippery Rock is up 7-0 after Kole Scott’s 21-yard touchdown run early int he game. The Rockets are out of the District 10 playoff race but have a chance to finish 4-6.

7:16 p.m.: Back to local football ... Karns City jumps ahead early on run-first drive

The Gremlins are tuning up for the District 9 playoffs against Wilmington tonight and are off to a good start. Per reporter Derek Pyday, Karns City ran seven plays, all runs, on a 66-yard drive capped by Hunter Scherer’s 6-yard TD. It’s 7-0 KC.

Butler trails 7-0 early and just turned the ball over on an interception.

7:15 p.m.: NFL Films at Seneca Valley?
