The Rev. Charles B. Bergman

The Rev. Charles B. Bergman, 87, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Zelienople, passed away Tuesday, while under the care of the Vincentian Home.

Born Nov. 10, 1930, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William V. Bergman and Rosemarie Buckert Bergman.

Father Bergman graduated from North Catholic High School. He attended St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, where he obtained his bachelor of arts degree in 1954 and his master of divinity degree in 1972.

Father Bergman was ordained by Bishop John Dearden and incardinated into the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 31, 1958, at St. Paul's Cathedral. He began his devotion to the Lord by serving as parochial vicar from 1958 to 1963 at St. Anne Parish in Pittsburgh. He then went on to serve as parochial vicar from 1963 to 1974 at St. Mary Parish in New Castle. Moving to Zelienople in 1974, he was the beloved pastor of St. Gregory Catholic Church for 29 years, until his retirement in 2003.

Father Bergman was thankful for the gift of his priesthood, for his family and for the city he loved, especially the sports teams.

He is survived by his brother, Raymond Bergman and his wife, Patricia; his sister, Rosemary Amurgis and her husband, Pete; and a sister-in-law, Joann Bergman. He was the devoted uncle of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, William Bergman and his wife, Theresa, and Gerard Bergman.

BERGMAN — Visitation for the Rev. Charles B. Bergman, who died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, will be held from 1 until 4 p.m. Friday at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople. A Vesper service will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by visitation until 9 p.m. Friday.Additional visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church with Bishop William J. Winter as celebrant.Father Bergman will be laid to rest at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery in Ross Township.Arrangements were entrusted to Boylan Funeral Home, Zelienople.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
