Apple TV show to film using location in Butler

Butler will be host to the fictional Fairhaven Police Department — a location in an upcoming show for a streaming service — for just a few days later this month.

“Parallax,” the working title for a new Apple TV show based on Lars Kepler's crime novels, will be filming in the city of Butler on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 29 and 30.

In support, city council voted unanimously at its meeting Thursday, Oct. 23, to permit usage of the North Street and Main Street lots, as well as the top level of the Tier Garage, to the production crew.

Production is expected to compensate the city for the usage of the lots, but as of Thursday night, the amount was undetermined.

Kevin Foster, a location manager on the project, explained the production’s needs in detail to council.

Parallax will be a 10-episode psychological thriller series based in Western Pennsylvania. Foster said the production team has filmed at numerous locations across the region to capture the authentic setting.

For Butler’s contribution, Foster said filming would only last for two days and would be focused around one location.

“The former gas company building that’s here at 205 North Main, it’s a beautiful old building and would make a wonderful police station. We’ve thought so since the beginning of our production,” Foster told council.

Foster said work on the set would begin early in the week in time for filming. He said the set may remain dressed for a time after filming, as production may need to return for future episodes.

The next Butler City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
