Harrisville police collecting donations for toy drive

The Harrisville Borough Police Department is collecting donations for its Christmas toy drive.

The department is collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys and clothing for all ages and local families. The gifts will be delivered to families Dec. 20.

Lt. Jordan Waclav got the idea last year from the “letters to Santa” mailbox in front of the police station. The department received five letters to Santa last year, but Waclav said he wanted to do more involving community members.

“In total, we had $2,500 in gift/toy donations before we set out to hand deliver them,” Waclav said.

He said two weeks before Christmas last year, he and community members delivered gifts to 18 families in need around Harrisville and Marion Township. He’s looking to double the number of families this year.
