A Knoch High School student was placed into the county Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program Tuesday in Butler County Court, after being charged with taking photographs of another student with his cell phone as they were in adjacent bathroom stalls at the school in December.

Caleb D. Haines, 18, of Buffalo Township, was placed into the program for 12 months on the charge of misdemeanor invasion of privacy by President Judge Thomas Doerr.

Doerr also ordered that the probation may be terminated after 9 months if there are no violations and Haines is to continue in mental health counseling and complete 40 hours of community service.

The ARD program allows charges to be suspended while the program is being completed, and if a defendant successfully completes the program charges may be dismissed and expunged.

State police also charged Haines with summary disorderly conduct after the incident at the school Dec. 8, which was dismissed.

The victim, a minor, told authorities that he was seated on the toilet in a stall when he noticed what he thought was someone attempting to take pictures of him from the next stall, police said.

The boy saw the camera phone reach under two times. After the second time, according to court documents, he told the suspect to “stop it.”

While he was unable to see who was taking the photos, he told police that the person was wearing “fuzzy onesie pants/shoes,” documents said, and the school principal was able to identify Haines based on the description.

Haines admitted taking the photos, documents said. He showed the photos to the principal.

“The pictures showed the victim's legs,” documents said, “and were verified by what he was wearing.”

Police said other photos of the same nature of unidentified males were also found on his phone.
