Grove City College Society of Automotive Engineers is hosting the fifth annual Baja Butler Bash on Saturday, Oct. 18, featuring cars designed and built by students to compete in events across the country.

This year’s event will be held at SwitchbackMX, 2469 William Flynn Highway (Route 8) in Clay Township. It will feature 12 teams and 31 cars on the track.

Grove City College Racing said it has two cars in the competition. The group is going up against teams from colleges in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland.

Baja SAE cars are single seat, open-design, off-road vehicles built around a 10 horsepower engine and are intended to run at around 30 mph, according to Grove City College Racing.

The Baja Butler Bash is open to the public. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and action begins at 11:30 a.m. with a hill-climbing contest. An endurance race starts at 1:30 p.m.

Spectators are advised to bring a lawn chair and a hat or umbrella.
