Harmony to be site of Showtime segment
HARMONY — What do actor Jeff Daniels and Harmony Borough have in common?
Apparently, rust. Not the kind developing on the underside of every Western Pennsylvanian vehicle, but rather “American Rust,” an upcoming series on Showtime, part of which will be filmed in Harmony.
At its Tuesday meeting, Harmony Borough Council tentatively approved a request by Nate Patterson, a location scout working on behalf of Fidelis Productions, to film a scene in the borough later in July.
The approval is conditioned on the studio's presentation of a certificate of insurance.
Patterson said the production studio was primarily interested in the borough for “driving work,” with cameras rigged to a vehicle, on Mercer Road between Seneca Drive and Spring Street. He said filming would necessitate some type of road closure — Patterson estimated roughly one to three minutes — with two police officers and flaggers on the side roads to enforce the short-term closures.
Patterson said, filming for that scene is scheduled some time between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. July 20, which is the same day he said they would be filming a “significant scene” in Zelienople.
