Lewis A. 'Pete' Hale
Lewis A. “Pete” Hale of Buffalo Township passed away peacefully at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Harrison Township.
Lewis was born in Freeport to the late William H. and Ottillie J. (Muder) Hale.
Pete was a graduate of Freeport High School, and he had attended the University of Pittsburgh.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After the war, he went to work for Alcoa Research in the paint lab. After his retirement, he spent some years consulting for KTA Tator. He also had served as the township secretary for Buffalo Township for several years.
He was a member of the Freeport United Methodist Church.
Pete loved gardening, grass, flowers and vegetables and was an active Penn State master gardener for many, many years. He enjoyed writing columns for the local newspaper and occasionally being on a Butler radio station.
He is survived by his wife, Carol L. (Gilbert) Hale; his daughter, Hope Hale-Bowman of Freeport; and his two grandsons, Raymond Bowman of Millville and Blaise Bowman of Freeport.
He was preceded by his eight brothers and sisters and their spouses, and his in-laws, Chet and Dot Gilbert.
<B>HALE </B>— Family and friends of Lewis A. “Pete” Hale, who died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, are being received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the <B>Redmond Funeral Home, </B>524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be in the Freeport United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Edd Myers officiating.
